Promotional video showcasing the ambitious plans for developing Kyaukpyu, Ramree Island, as an economic and technological zone. The development is to be undertaken by China’s CITIC Group (citic.com) and includes large deep water ports, airfield and a 200km/h railroad connecting Kyaukpyu to China.
According to the Burma’s Special Economic Zone Law, tax exemptions are offered for different sectors; 5 years for production, 8 years for high-tech, 2 years for agriculture, livestock breeding and forestry, and 1 year for banking. Any homes or farming properties located on a proposed Special Economic Zone must be duly relocated and will be reimbursed.
